My Story
Cristina Ramos is the Co-Founder of Mammissi Birth Services and a nationally recognized advocate for birth equity, community-based doula care, and maternal-infant health workforce development. With more than two decades of hands-on experience supporting families across New Jersey, New York, and Pennsylvania, she specializes in building perinatal pathways that equip BIPOC doulas and breastfeeding professionals with training, mentorship, clinical access, and sustainable career opportunities.
Cristina currently serves as the Assistant Director of Perinatal Workforce Development at BRICK Education Network’s Healthy Beginnings initiative in Newark, where she leads Community Perinatal Health Associate cohorts, hospital-based experiential learning partnerships, lactation specialization tracks, and professional advancement initiatives that prepare doulas to work confidently in clinical and community spaces.
Her leadership is deeply informed by her own birth story at seventeen, and by the systemic barriers, fear, and invisibility that Black, Brown, and Indigenous birthing people continue to face. She has dedicated her career to changing maternal health outcomes by uplifting community wisdom, culturally affirming care, shared decision-making, and family autonomy. Cristina collaborates with statewide partners, philanthropic funders, hospitals, and CBOs to move policy, shape reimbursement access, and expand equitable doula care across the region.
At Mammissi Birth Services, Cristina oversees agency operations, doula recruitment, advanced training, continuing education, lactation initiatives, and high-touch client experience. Her vision is a luxury doula standard grounded in cultural humility, continuity of care, and true support—where both clients and doulas feel heard, held, respected, and resourced.
Cristina is a mother, grandmother, mentor, and educator committed to building wealth, stability, and opportunity for the families and birthworkers she serves. She believes birthwork is ancestral, strategic, and transformative—and that changing outcomes requires investment, collaboration, and community power.
